Dr. Capt. Issa Awad Mahmoud Hasan is a distinguished figure in the maritime and shipping industry, with a career spanning several decades. Born on March 7, 1957, in Bait Liqya, Jordan, Dr. Hasan embarked on his maritime journey in 1982, graduating as a Navigation Officer from the Arab Maritime Transport Academy (A.M.T.A) in Egypt. He furthered his education with intermediate and master mariner qualifications, culminating in a doctorate in Maritime Transport and Logistics from Augusta University and a Philosophy Doctorate in Maritime Studies from the University Malaysia Terengganu.

Dr. Hasan’s professional tenure is marked by significant leadership roles, including his current positions as Managing Director (MD) of Sheraa Ship trading and Transport and Polaris for Management & Education Consultancy. He also imparts his knowledge as a part-time lecturer in Maritime Law. His previous roles have seen him at the helm of MD of Jurf Navigation Lines and Ship Operation and Phoenicia Maritime and Shipping Services as CEO and as a pivotal part of the Aqaba Maritime Education and Training Center/Al Balqa Applied University (BAU), enriching minds as a lecturer and Deputy General Manager of the Maritime Training Center.

A founder of Tehama Shipping Services Co. in Dubai, Dr. Hasan played a crucial role in establishing a container feeder line between Jebel Ali, UAE, and Umm Qasr, Iraq, serving major international container lines. His expertise spans across chartering, cargo transport, freight forwarding, logistics worldwide, marine insurance, and claims, demonstrating a comprehensive mastery over the maritime and shipping sector.

Dr. Hasan’s contributions extend to the Jordan National Lines for Ship Operation (JNLSO), where he significantly influenced operations, business development, and strategic planning. His tenure with JNLSO and subsequent positions within the Jordan National Shipping Lines and related entities underscored his ability to lead, innovate, and expand maritime services and education.

An Associate Fellow of the Nautical Institute in London and a member and former president of the Jordan Maritime Association (JOMAS), Dr. Hasan’s professional affiliations reflect his standing in the maritime community. His sea service from 1979 to 2000 aboard forty vessels showcase his hands-on experience and leadership at sea, laying the foundation for his subsequent achievements in maritime education, consultancy, and operational management.
